陶芸家西隆行と写真家中島紳一郎による共同制作による作品。
2021年4月に渋谷ヒカリエ8/にて開催した【工芸的視点と写真展】にて発表。

工芸とは技術と制作工程による素材表現です。技術と制作工程の特性を活かし、素材の魅力を表現する事が工芸の要素であると考えています。そう考えた時、作り出した物それ自体ではなく、作る行為そのものが工芸的表現に成りうるのではないかと考えました。ロクロで作る工程での土の表情やロクロを引く行為自体を作品に出来ないかと考えました。陶芸の表現として技術と工程、それ自体が作品として成立し、作るために行為を行うのではなく、行為を行った結果として物が残る。工芸の表現の可能性を考えました。
　今回の動画は、ロクロを引くという行為自体が工芸的表現として成立するのではないかという実験的な作品です。土の塊が回転によって立ち上がり膨らむ、内側に空間を作る、その土の動きや表情自体に魅力を感じ制作しました。

ただの土の塊が、回転しながら内側から膨らんで形になっていく姿に、果てしない時間の流れを感じる。そこには素材である土の時間や、ろくろという技術が体系化されていった時間、実際に人がろくろを引いている物理的な時間など、いろんな時間がある。そういったものすべてを映像にして留めたいと思った。

Industrial art is a material expression from technique and production process.
I think that the important thing is the representation of what attractive materials are.
I notice that artwork’s goal is not only result. This time I wanted to show ‘process’.
I thougth that a craftsman’s artwork process can be art and crafts.
I mean that it includes the time spent making a pot on a potter’s wheel.
This time, I save this video and I consider and try the possibility of an expression of crafts.
This art work is experimental and my first step. I am really attracted to soil movement and soil expression and hope to share with you guys.

It’s just a lump of soil.
I feel an endless time when I see the soil rises and rotates into shape.
There are many types of time: the time of soil material, the time of a turner’s skill, and the time spent making a pot on a potter’s wheel.
So, I really do and would like to save a video of all this great work and skills.
